STILLWATER — Oklahoma State scored off a deflection 20 minutes into the game and the No. 5 Cowgirls went on to a 2-0 exhibition soccer victory over Arkansas on Saturday.
Last year, No. 6 Oklahoma State recorded a 4-0 victory over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville.
"We got out of it what we needed to get out of it," first-year head coach Colby Hale said. "OSU is a very talented team. We needed to get exposed in some areas and we did, and we needed to have some success in some areas and we did. We got out of it exactly what we needed."
Arkansas generated an offensive attack with a shot on goal five minutes in. Ten minutes in, OSU had three shots on goal over a four-minute stretch with keeper Kelly Roliard registering saves on all three.
At the 24:50 mark, Arkansas was called for a foul just outside the 18. Megan Marchesano took the free kick. The shot bounced off a player near the goal and right back to Marchesano. She fired the deflection into the upper left corner of the net for the goal.
At the 14-minute mark, Arkansas' offense generated two shots over a 20-second stretch, but one was blocked and OSU keeper Adrianna Franch made a save on the other.
Hale played 17 Razorbacks in the first half and liberally substituted in the second half. For the game, 20 Razorbacks played.
"Almost everybody had a chance to play," Hale said. "I think we answered some questions we had. Overall, we're pleased."
OSU scored a goal six minutes into the second half on a high-arcing shot from 15 yards away for the final margin.
Arkansas opens the season for real next week, playing two games at Razorback Field in Fayetteville. Arkansas plays host to Austin Peay on Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m.
