Sequoyah’s Thompson places 13th in 4A State CC meet

SEQUOYAH — Hunter Thompson finished 13th to pace the Claremore Sequoyah Lady Eagles’ performance at the Class 4A state cross country championships on Saturday.

Thompson clocked 12 minutes, 49.90 seconds over the 3,200-meter course, pushing Sequoyah to an 11th place team finish.

Dacey Jano crossed 57th for the Eagles in 13:57.86, Aubryana Matussak 58th in 13:52.05, Paige Massman 90th in 14:49.65, Krista Haddock 102nd in 15:27.05, Hannah Johnson 108th in 16:41.13 and Anna Gayman 109th in 17:10.21.

Sydney Lawrence of Stilwell was the individual winner in 11:51.39. Mount Saint Mary won the team crown with 45 points, 25 more than runnerup Heritage Hall. Seqouyah scored 260 points in taking 11th.

    For the second-straight year, the Claremore Zebra student training staff will be represented in the Oklahoma Coaches All-State games held in Tulsa.
    Meranda Golbek and Sarah Szcinski, a pair of 2014 Claremore High School graduates, earned All-State honors for their athletic training careers and will join two other student trainers from Jenks and Stillwater High School on the East squad.

    Brandon Crawford hit a bases-clearing double to break a 14th-inning stalemate and Tim Lincecum earned his first career save as the Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 on Tuesday night.

    Chase Headley hustled to New York, eager to help his new team right away. That's exactly what he did - about 4 1/2 hours after pulling on his pinstripes.

    Headley came through with a storybook swing at the stroke of midnight in his Yankees debut, hitting a game-winning single in the 14th inning to give New York a 2-1 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
