Verdigris senior guard Baileigh O’Dell may have won the score sheet, but her teammate Taylor Beck proved to be a difference maker with pesky defense.
O’Dell’s game-high 23 points led Verdigris into the finals of the 48th Annual Port City Classic Friday night following a 61-28 win over Grove.
Though O’Dell was plagued with two fouls early in the first quarter, the future Lamar University point guard rode the defensive intensity of Beck the rest of the way and drained five 3-pointers in the process.
O’Dell had 11 of her 23 points in the second quarter, making a three treys while running Verdigris’ halftime lead to 33-15.
Caitlyn Hanslovan and Courtney Risenhoover also combined for 14 points in the first 16 minutes.
Risenhoover finished the game with 11 points and Hanslovan added eight.
Verdigris led 15-3 after the first quarter, and then outscored Grove, 46-25 the remaining three quarters.
Emily Iverson tallied 11 points to lead the Grove offense.
