OCU women's basketball meets Baylor in exhibition

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University squares off with Baylor at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Ferrell Center in a women's basketball exhibition.

Six-time national champion OCU took on Baylor in exhibition play Oct. 30, 2012 in Waco, Texas, as Baylor prevailed 91-42. The Stars meet two NCAA Division I teams in exhibitions in 2013-14. OCU faces Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 in College Station, Texas.

In 2012-13, fifth-ranked OCU went 28-4, captured its 14th Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championship and advanced to the NAIA Division I Tournament quarterfinals. The Stars became the 10th women's hoops team in SAC history to go unbeaten in league play.

"The atmosphere that our players will get to play in is a great experience," said OCU coach Latricia Trammell, who was SAC coach of the year last season. "Baylor really takes it to us and makes us play at another level which in turn prepares us going into our preseason schedule. Kim Mulkey and her staff do a great job, and her team competes extremely hard. We are looking forward to the challenge."

Autumn Huffman will be OCU's lone returning starter from last season. Huffman, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., contributed 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.66 steals a game. Huffman will be joined by fellow seniors Kayla MacKenzie and Cara Pugh.

OCU led the NAIA in turnover margin at plus-12.84 as team while ranking second in average scoring margin (29.93) and third in scoring defense (50.41 per game) and defensive field-goal percentage (33.0 percent). To see where OCU stacks up against the NAIA statistically, click here.

Baylor reached the Sweet 16 before suffering an upset loss to Louisville 82-81 on March 31 in Oklahoma City. Baylor finished 34-2 and had won 32 consecutive games before the defeat. The Lady Bears swept the Big 12 regular-season and tournament titles led by eventual No. 1 WNBA draft pick Brittney Griner.

Odyssey Sims returns for her senior season at Baylor. Sims became a three-time first-team all-Big 12 performer while averaging 12.9 points, 5.8 assists and 2.75 steals a contest as a junior. Sims recently took tournament most valuable player to key Team USA's gold-medal effort in the World University Games.

The Stars begin the regular season Nov. 22-23 in the Austin Tournament in Sherman, Texas.

OCU has captured national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2012.
