No. 1 Verdigris hosts Adair on Saturday

VERDIGRIS — The top-ranked Verdigris Cardinals return to the diamond Saturday afternoon in a non-conference battle  at home against Adair.

Game time is set for Noon and Little League players in their uniforms accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge.

The Cardinals enter Saturday’s game with a 5-0 record and a clean sweep of the Sperry Pirates earlier this week in Will Rogers Conference play.

Verdigris held off the Pirates, 4-3 in Monday’s home game, and then rode the explosive hitting of Kale Keith, Tanner Smith and Ryan Skalnik to a 10-0 victory on Tuesday.

Keith, Smith and Skalnik each produced two hits against Sperry.

Verdigris is joined in the 3A rankings by the following area teams: No. 3 Salina (4-1), No. 4 Sperry (6-2), No. 8 Vian (5-1), No. 10 Beggs (4-4), No. 16 Tahlequah Sequoyah (0-0), No. 18 Kansas (2-1) and No. 20 Morris (3-2).
