RSU baseball to recognize 2012 World Series team on Sunday

CLAREMORE — The Rogers State Athletics Department will recognize the 2012 NAIA World Series team on Sunday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex between the Hillcats’ doubleheader against Baker (Kan.).

The twin bill against Baker is slated for 1 p.m. and the recognition ceremony of current and former Hillcat baseball players, who made the memorable run to the World Series championship game, will be held between games at approximately 3 p.m.  All current and former players along with their families are encouraged to be in attendance.

“We are very proud of everything the baseball program accomplished last spring and the way they represented our institution on a national stage,” RSU Director of Athletics Ryan Bradley said. “We’d like to invite our community to come out to the ballpark Sunday and join us as we pay tribute to this special group of young men.”

The Hillcats registered their best finish in program history in 2012. In their first appearance at the NAIA World Series, the ninth-seeded Diamond Cats played Cinderella, quickly becoming a fan favorite in Lewiston, Idaho. They posted three come-from-behind victories and tallied a 4-2 record at the tournament. The Diamond Cats knocked off top-ranked and top-seeded LSU-Shreveport and second-seeded Lee (Tenn.), unexpectedly reaching the title game. The Hillcats jumped 21 spots in the final poll in 2012 to come in at No. 2.

Rogers State (6-3) will play a four-game series against Baker University to open their home slate this weekend. The home stand begins on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. and will conclude with the twin bill on Sunday. The games will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at
