SAN DIEGO — Oklahoma’s 10th win of the season didn’t come easy. Against Notre Dame on Sunday at the Campbell/Carter Classic in San Diego, Calif., the Irish led 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, giving the Sooners one last chance to get in the game or fall to 9-1 on the season.

But the top-ranked Sooners, led by sophomore Lauren Chamberlain and senior Jessica Shults, came through for OU in the end to tie it up, and the Sooners eventually prevailed 7-5 in extra innings.

Chamberlain doubled to left field, and Shults followed with a sacrifice fly that allowed Chamberlain to narrowly beat out the throw to the plate and tie up the game.

“I knew the outfielder was pretty shallow, and when I went to tag up coach was like ‘do it, Lauren,’” Chamberlain said. “I knew it was going to be a close play. I just went in hard and got in there and tied the game.”

Michelle Gascoigne earned the win in relief of Keilani Ricketts, pitching three and two-thirds and striking out nine. Georgia Casey added her second home run of the season as OU moved to 10-0 with the win.

“We’re a better team after this game,” Chamberlain said. “It helped us out in the long run. Notre Dame came to play today. We didn’t win with the big hits and the big bombs. We were finding little ways to move our runners and execute and get the job done.”
