SOCCER: No. 1 Lady Cards topple Pawhuska

VERDIGRIS — Verdigris senior forward Caitlyn Hanslovan found her shooter’s touch Tuesday night and led the Class 4A No. 1-ranked Lady Cardinals to a 3-1 win over Pawhuska.

Hanslovan scored two goals and Summer Witt added a goal to spark the Verdigris offensive attack.

Hanslovan’s first goal came early in the opening half as Verdigris took a 1-0 lead.

Pawhuska netted a goal by Philoippi to even the score at 1-1 going into halftime.

In the second half, Hanslovan and Witt secured the victory with goals.

Defensively, Verdigris goalkeeper Jade Graves tallied three saves.

Pawhuska keeper Shulenberger also contributed with 10 saves.

With the win, Verdigris improved to 2-3 on the season. Pawhuska, ranked No. 13 in Class 4A, fell to 4-1.

Verdigris will return to action at 5 p.m. today against the Owasso JV at Cardinals Stadium.
