OU 1st, OSU 4th in Big 12 preseason poll

OKLAHOMA CITY — College football is a month away and the Big 12 Conference has already released their projections for the upcoming season.

The Oklahoma Sooners were tabbed first ahead of West Virginia, Texas and 2011 conference champion Oklahoma State.

OU, behind three-year starting senior quarterback Landry Jones, garnered 32 of the 41 first-place votes.

The West Virginia Mountaineers, in their first year in the Big 12, picked up seven first place votes. TCU and Kansas State each collected the other two first place votes.

Along with the first four teams, Big 12 officials believe that TCU, Kansas State, Baylor, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas will roll out the conference race.

On Wednesday, West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was tabbed the Big 12 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Texas’ Alex Okafor received the top defensive honor.
