‘Pack the House’

Zebras host Tulsa Memorial in 5A Playoffs

CLAREMORE — For the first time since 2010, the Claremore Zebras are back in the high school football playoffs.

Claremore (9-1) will host Tulsa Memorial (8-2) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at Lantow Field.

“We’ve got a great opportunity to do something special — get a home playoff win — and that’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time here in Claremore,” Zebras head football coach Rob Gilbreath said.

“We need the stands packed with Zebra fans. The louder the fans are, the better the team plays.”

The gates on Friday will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets will be available for $5 and the only passes that will be accepted are the playoff pass from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association.

According to the Claremore athletic department, “Reserve seats will be on a first-come bases.”

The winner of the Claremore-Tulsa Memorial game will face the winner of the Carl Albert-Del City game in the second round on Nov. 16 at either Carl Albert or Del City.

“Memorial is a team that is loaded with talented players,” Gilbreath said. “They depend heavily on the big plays to score.”

Gilbreath noted that Tulsa Memorial reminds him of the Central Braves.

“Memorial is 8-2 for a reason and that reason is because they are talented,” Gilbreath said. “Like Central, they have a lot of speed and some playmakers. We can’t give up the big play on defense, or turn the ball over on offense.

“In order to get the first win in the playoffs, we will have to be on our toes and play every play.”
