CLAREMORE — Claremore sophomore Kaleb Hinds threw two touchdown passes and had a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown as the JV Zebras stomped East Central, 37-6 Monday night at Lantow Field.

With the win, the JV Zebras improved to 4-0 on the season.

Claremore came out a little angry after the varsity dropped a 20-19 heartbreaker to East Central last Friday night in Tulsa.

The frustration was quickly released early in the first quarter when Hinds delivered a perfect 37-yard strike to wide receiver Randy Williams for the touchdown that put the JV Zebras ahead of East Central, 7-0.

The lead grew to 14-0 on a solid offensive drive that was led by junior quarterback Brinley Brown and the hard-nosed running of sophomore tailback Derrick Reliford.

Brown fired consecutive passes to Josh Peavy and Cade Edwards to put the Zebras in East Central territory.

From the 35-yard line, Brown scampered 15 yards behind the lead block of fullback Chris Dotson to give the Zebras a first down inside the East Central 20-yard line.

Dotson rumbled to the 5-yard line on the ensuing play and Brown called his own number at the goal line for the 2-yard touchdown run.

Jared Vincent converted his second extra point and Claremore led 14-0.

The Zebras took advantage of a defensive turnover as Hinds picked off Quantel Givens pass and raced 45 yards for the touchdown that increased Claremore’s lead to 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

East Central, meanwhile, tallied its only touchdown late in the second quarter on a bootleg run around the left side by Givens. The 2-point conversion pass was broken up by Nathan Garwick and East Central trailed Claremore, 21-6.

Coming out in the third quarter, Reliford and Dotson keyed Claremore’s offensive success.

Dotson scored on a 10-yard run and added the 2-point conversion to give the Zebras the 29-6 lead.

The touchdown drive was keyed by Hinds’ first-down pass to Edwards for 12 yards.

Then, with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Hinds eluded several East Central defenders and connected with Edwards for a 47-yard touchdown pass. Reliford punched in the 2-point conversion and Claremore secured the 37-6 victory.

The Claremore JV remains perfect with wins over Oologah, Miami, Collinsville and East Central.
