BASKETBALL: Lady Cards ranked 5th in Class 3A

VERDIGRIS — The bigger the games, the better Baileigh O’Dell plays.

In the Port City Classic, O’Dell turned in an impressive three-game performance to lead the Class 3A No. 5 Verdigris Lady Cardinals to a third-place finish.

O’Dell, who is a three-year starter for the Lady Cardinals, sparked Verdigris to wins over Catoosa and Cascia Hall.

The Lady Cardinals floor general tallied a career-high 31 points in a 76-52 win over Cascia Hall.

O’Dell scored 25 of her 31 points in the first half of the third-place game Saturday afternoon. She drained four three-pointers during that stretch and also played tenacious on defense with five steals.

On the season, O’Dell ranks second in Class 3A scoring across the Tulsa Metro area. In 18 games, O’Dell has 316 total points for an average of 17.6 per game.

She has converted 112-of-242 field goal attempts for a 46.3 shooting percentage. From the perimeter, O’Dell has drained 26-of-67 treys for a 38.8 shooting percentage.

When O’Dell isn’t scoring, she remains a threat with her court awareness.

This season, in 18 games, O’Dell has 88 total assists for 8.8 per game.

On defense, O’Dell’s speed and tenacity has led to 77 total steals for an average of 4.3 per game.

Along with O’Dell, senior forward Stacia Payne joined O’Dell on the Port City Classic All-Tournament team with 48 total points, 15 rebounds, 14 steals and 12 assists in three games.

The leadership of O’Dell and Payne, along with starters Caitlyn Hanslovan, Camry Collins and Courtney Risenhoover, has the Lady Cardinals ranked among the top five teams in Class 3A heading into February.

According to the Tulsa World Metro area statistics, Risenhoover has 120 total rebounds in 18 games for an average of 6.7 per game. She’s also made 52-of-72 free throws for a 72.2 shooting percentage.

This Friday, the Lady Cardinals (16-3) return to Will Rogers Conference action at 6:30 p.m. in Sperry.
