PHOENIX — Two games. Two no-hitters.
It’s been a perfect start for Oklahoma pitcher Keilani Ricketts and her teammates as they opened the season 4-0 with another pair of blowout victories Saturday.
After tossing a no-hitter against No. 21 Stanford on Friday, the bar was set pretty high for Ricketts against fifth-ranked Oregon. But that didn’t stop her from reaching it again, striking out 10 batters for the second-ranked Sooners. She became the first Sooner pitcher since Lauren Eckermann in 2007 to throw no-hitters on consecutive days.
As expected, the offense was deadly again on Saturday. The Sooners amassed 23 runs between a 12-0 win over Oregon and an 11-1 drubbing of New Mexico. Shelby Pendley hit her third home run of the season, and Lauren Chamberlain nailed her fourth of the year against Oregon.
OU finishes up at the Kajikawa Classic in Phoenix today with a game against Northwestern at noon.
