Berryhill cruised to a 30-0 halftime lead and advanced to the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs with a 43-14 win over the Inola Longhorns Friday night.
The win for Berryhill improved the Chiefs to 9-2 on the season and set up a showdown on Friday night at Locust Grove.
After taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on Jeremy Smith’s 11-yard touchdown pass from Ty Walker, Berryhill tallied 23 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 30-0 lead into halftime.
Lane Hassenplug scampered for the 6-yard TD and Walker added a 14-yard TD run that put Berryhill up 20-0.
Moments later, Walker connected with Brad Davis for a 1-yard TD reception and then Smith scored on a 1-yard TD run to close out the first-half scoring for Berryhill.
In the third quarter, Walker’s 14-yard TD pass to Smith kept Berryhill rolling with a 37-0 lead.
Inola, however, scored both of its touchdowns in the fourth quarter on Mason Stookey’s 12-yard pass to Dillon Springer and then Stookey’s 7-yard run.
The final Berryhill touchdown was not reported.
Inola finished the season with a 5-6 record under second-year head coach Brian Tinker.
