DURANT — The Claremore softball team soundly defeated McAlester 12-0 in the first round of the three-team 5A regional in Durant.

The Lady Zebras (19-17) advance to face Durant in the second game Friday.

Claremore left the bases loaded in the first after two walks and a single, but made up for it in the second. Alyssa Poorboy doubled, Alexis Williams singled and Rylee Vanaman drove in Poorboy with a single. Kayla Shisler followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.

Four singles, the final one a two-run drive by Vanaman that scored Poorboy and Terran Schornick, made it 5-0 after three. Poorboy then singled and scored on a Williams single in the fifth for a 6-0 lead.

Claremore tacked on six more runs on seven hits in the seventh. Vanaman drove in two runs off a bunt, and Holland Rader singled in a run, and scored along with Shisler on a Hannah Rackleff double. It was 12-0.

Claremore had 20 hits, four from Poorboy and three each from Vanaman and Shisler. Poorboy had two doubles and Vanaman drove in five.

Williams, Rader, Rackleff and Schornick all had two hits.

Zowie Davis was the winning pitcher. She allowed five hits, struck out two and didn’t have any walks.
