It’s been the most anticipated date on the Claremore Zebras’ football calendar. And after months of conversation and prediction, the Big Day is here. Jenks is coming to town. The Jenks Trojans, Oklahoma football’s version of the New York Yankees mystique, will arrive at Lantow Field for a 7:30 kickoff tonight with the Zebras. Jenks is the state’s premier high school football program. Jenks has even been ranked No. 1 in the nation. Football teams like Jenks don’t come to town very often. But they do tonight. Claremore High School woke up one day last year in a new world. The world of Class 6A football. The world of Jenks football. When the Zebras found themselves in the same district, District 6A-3, with the Trojans, the expectations that they might be playing here so soon were so great they would have made Charles Dickens proud. Even Pip never had expectations this great. Jenks is, after all, the gold standard. Jenks has dominated the largest classification of Oklahoma schoolboy football like no other team in history. In the last 12 seasons, Jenks has won nine state championships.
