Man found dead at NSU

Caller reported body in vehicle parked near football stadium

TAHLEQUAH —

State law enforcement officials are helping investigate the death of a man found Sunday inside a vehicle in Tahlequah.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said Northeastern State University police received a call about 4:15 p.m. reporting a body in a vehicle parked near the football stadium.

An unidentified man was declared dead when emergency personnel arrived, Brown said. The vehicle was near Grand Avenue near Doc Wadley Stadium. OSBI was called in by campus police to help investigate.

“We don’t know if it’s a homicide or what this is at this time, but we’re going to investigate it as a homicide in case it is one,” Brown said.

A cause of death was unknown as of Sunday evening, according to a media release from the OSBI. An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner’s office, according to the release.

A spokesman for the university, Ben Hardcastle, did not say whether the man may have been a student.

Hardcastle said he had been on the scene until about 7 p.m.
