County election fee discount will not apply if schools participate

CLAREMORE —

Earlier this week the Claremore Daily Progress reported that the Rogers County Commissioners could benefit from sharing an election date with two school bond ballots in September.
The information provided at the time was not accurate, according to Rogers County Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody.
School systems do not share the cost of an election when the county calls an election, therefore there would be no cost benefit to Rogers County, Dermody said.
However, the schools could benefit from sharing an election with the county resulting in less expense to taxpayers.
Normally the schools would have a prorated fee if an election is shared with other entities, but this does not apply to elections called by the county, according to Dermody.
If election expenses are prorated for school districts, it would only be a decrease relating to the number of precincts impacted and the fees related to those polling places.
Rogers County is the only entity scheduled to participate in the Aug. 13 election at this time.
