COMING SOON: Catoosa officials confident of new retail development
A 61-acre commercial development is on the minds of Catoosa city councilors.
The council discussed the project, which could provide as many as 1,000 jobs with add to the sales tax revenue stream benefiting the city and local school district.
A subdivision will also serve as an economic catalyst to stimulate more population growth opportunities for the area.
Plans call for a department store, restaurants and dozens of shops. No specific names of companies were released, although a Walmart has previously been mentioned.
During Monday’s meeting, City Manager Leroy Alsup said the current design modifications have been approved as requested.
“The developer will have groundbreaking plans in the next two to three weeks,” he said.
Revisions on the preliminary plat of Catoosa Hills Commercial Subdivision and final plat of Phase One will be discussed during that time as well.
“The final plat for Phase One is expected to be finished by November of this year,” he said.
Developments of this size take time but he thinks the developer is doing a good job and appreciates the progress being made.
Final traffic signal modification plans for primary access to the subdivision on 193rd, were completed Wednesday and are ready to be submitted to the developer.
“We are so close,” said Catoosa Mayor Sandy Myers.
She said initially the development looked like it would move pretty fast, but some challenges did occur.
Trying to get utility lines between property easements into a coherent piece of property was a big challenge, as well as road easements, said Myers.
As anticipation grows, the community is excited to see constrution move forward.
“Be patient it’s on the horizon,” she said.
