A group of Rogers County residents organized a relief effort May 24 for tornado victims at the Atwoods parking lot.
“We set up a truck and held signs at Atwoods for donation drop off for Shawnee and Moore Victims,” said Cherish Morrison.
“We started at 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. We had an awesome turnout. We collected 54 cases of water and over 20 boxes full of items for the Shawnee tornado victims. We thank everyone who donated and helped out.”
Morrison said the group traveled to Shawnee on May 25 to help with storm clean up.
Residents involved included Morrison, Kelsey and Garrett Kimblern, Jeremy and Jimmy Williams, Clayton Cates, Chad Taylor, Chris Buchanan, Brittany Rue and Brittany Pope.
“After seeing all the damage today in Shawnee I’m not taking life for granted any more,” said Taylor. “I got to go help with my best friends and today was a life changer for me. I cried when we got to talk to a home owner. He lost everything.”
Kimblern said “Today was the most humbling day of my life. I will never forget the things we saw and the people we met. I like to think I’m a tough guy, but there were things today that made me tear up and I will always remember. I was fortunate enough to do it with a group of friends I now share an extremely close bond with. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped in any way.”
