Commissioners okay Valmont request

New metal fabrication facility coming to Catoosa

CLAREMORE — Rogers County Commissioners have approved a zoning change request from Valmont Industries, Inc. to allow for a metal pole fabrication facility near the Port of Catoosa.

Valmont Industries spokesman Lou Reynolds was present Monday at the commissioners meeting to detail Valmont’s plans for the new facility. It will be located in the Riverview Industrial Park at the Port of Catoosa.

“We’re requesting a zoning change from Restricted Industrial Lighy (I-1) and Heavy Industrial District (I-4) to PUD#4, which would allow us greater flexibility, but also require us to follow the specifics of the PUD (Planned Unit Development),” Reynolds said.

“This (rezoning) is for three lots at Riverview (Business Park), of the eight which Valmont owns there.

“Most of you know, Riverview Park is a joint development of the City of Tulsa-Rogers County Port Authority and the Claremore Industrial Redevelopment Authority many years ago,” he said.

“It was developed to attract industries to the area, with direct access to the Port.”

Reynolds presented commissioners with maps of the planned fabrication facility, noting its location to the Port, space allotted for parking, landscaping plans, and designs for a retaining wall to “level” the property.

Also present at Monday’s meeting was Bob Portiss, director, Port of Catoosa, who encouraged commissioners to approve the zoning change.

“Valmont does $65 million business a year already at the Port. I could be here all day, preaching to you about how wonderful this company is, because they are,” Portiss began, “but I’ll just note that when this (metal pole fabrication facility) is in full production, they’ll be adding another 100 jobs to the Port and that’s something we all should be excited about.”

After additional discussions, commissioners voted 3-0 to approve the zoning change.
