Commissioners postpone budget talks

CLAREMORE —

The Rogers County Commissioners tabled budget discussions for another one week due to discrepancies in accounting in the Rogers County Clerk and Treasurer’s offices.
The delay was prompted by staff describing it to be nothing more than journal entry or clerical errors occurring in last year’s fiscal year accounting. The transfer of funds into accounts involving the general fund and the One-Cent fund are in the process of being resolved. The matter was one of housekeeping and tracking the receipt of funding to purchases, according to the clerk’s staff.
CPA Bill Turner briefly explained the issue during the meeting saying it would be resolved before next week.
One of the items was resolved on Friday and the rest of the journal items were expected to be complete Monday, according to Turner.
The budget should be finalized next week to include the possible approval of employee raises.
The meeting agenda was short, taking less than an hour before the board entered an executive session.
After about 30 minutes in executive session, the board entered open session and voted to enter into mediation with the parties in the lawsuit involving right-of-way in the Spunky Creek Bridge project in Catoosa.
In other business, the commissioners voted to approve a phone contract for the election board.
The issue was tabled, pending legal review.
The election board staff is working to verify petition signatures in the pending grand jury investigation of several county officials.
“We are almost done verifying signatures,” Election Baord Secretary Julie Dermody said.
The verification process is expected to conclude mid-week, but must be finished by Friday, according to state law.
A motion filed Friday to stay the certification of the petition, filed by District Attorney Janice Steidley and two of her assistants, remains pending.
