Catoosa City Council members accepted the resignation of City Manager Leroy Alsup following an executive session Monday.
Alsup submitted his resignation letter to Mayor Red Statum less than a week after council suspended him with pay and benefits by a vote of 5-2.
Alsup’s letter stated:
“To allow the majority of the city council to move forward as they desire, a new direction as to the management of the City of Catoosa, with regrets, I, Leroy D. Alsup, hereby voluntarily and irrevocably resign my employment with the City of Catoosa and the Catoosa Public Works Authority effective the end of the workday on June 5, 2013.”
Council members are now planning to begin their search for a new city manager.
City Treasurer Russ White said he is unsure of any goals set at this time as to the type of applicant the council is searching for.
White was one of two council members to vote against the suspension. Fred Williams also casted a “no” vote. Brenda Conley, Thomas Sweet, Greg Williams, Mayor Red Statum and Ralph Mclaughlin voted yes in favor of the suspension.
City Clerk Judy Scullawl was appointed as acting city manager.
White said Catoosa business owners and himself are still shocked at Alsup’s suspension.
“A city is a business and should be ran like one,” he said. “The next city manager needs to have experience in municipal management. With Leroy we had that at a professional level.”
No information has been given as to why Alsup was suspended.
