Tenth-ranked Chelsea dropped its first game of the season at No. 6 Lincoln Christian Thursday night, falling 49-12 in a District 2A-7 battle.
The Green Dragons (7-1, 4-1) have another big game when they host Newkirk next Friday. The winner of that contest will likely finish in the district runner up spot.
The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-0) will claim the district title with a victory in one of their last two games.
Chelsea had some good efforts on the night. Tyler Akee finished with 73 yards on 12 carries and scored one touchdown.
Lonnie Tharp had 89 receiving yards on eight grabs. Quarterback Caleb Captain finished with 123 yards of total offense.
The Green Dragons got off to a great start. Kennedy Lockhart put them ahead 6-0 when scored on a 42 yard run with 8:26 left in the first period.
That touchdown came on fourth down and was set up when the Chelsea defense stopped Lincoln Christian on a fourth down play as well near midfield exactly two minutes prior.
The Bulldogs, however, scored on a pair of long touchdown passes that eventually resulted in a 14-6 lead for them after the first quarter.
Lincoln Christian then extended to a 21-6 halftime advnatage and stretched its lead to 35-6 at the 3:22 mark of the third period.
Akee, however, got the Green Dragons on the board again thanks to a 37 yard touchdown run with 1:22 to play in the third.
The Bulldogs countered though with a pair of Zack Simmons touchdown runs in the final stanza. Simmons finished with 204 yards on 24 carries and scored four touchdowns.
Chelsea was hampered when Taurus Yorkman went down with an apparent right ankle injury in the second quarter. Yorkman entered the game with 579 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns.
