Foyil Firefighters responded to a house fire around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday morning at 12212 S. Maple Street, just blocks from the Foyil Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived on scene a few minutes later and the flames were under control just before 6:40 a.m., said Foyil Fire Chief Randy Atchley.
He said personnel arrived just in time, preventing the fire from getting out of control. No injuries were reported.
“The family renting the home happened to be staying at a friend’s house when (the fire) occurred. It looks to have been started by electrical outlet issues in the kitchen,” said Atchley. “Flames went up into the ceiling, through a vent and began melting the shingles. It was getting ready to be a big one.”
State fire investigators are currently investigating the matter and have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire.
Extensive water and smoke damage occurred throughout a majority of the house. The home will stay, but repairs will need to be made before the family is able to move back in, said Atchley.
