Commissioners limit focus on grand jury

CLAREMORE —

Despite a pending grand jury petition, business continued as usual Monday at the weekly Rogers County Commissioner’s meeting.
Two of the board members — commissioners Dan DeLozier and Kirt Thacker — said they plan to sign the petition.
Although the meeting focused more on upcoming budget discussions instead of the petition, there was some slight bantering about the issue.
Thacker and DeLozier agreed county employees could feel free to participate in the petition, as long as it followed county policy.
County policy does not allow for political activity during working hours.
Thacker, who has publicly encourage citizens to participate, found no reason why his employee should feel any differently.
Commissioner Mike Helm made little comment, only saying he would not sign the petition.
The board focused their attention to the business at hand,  approving purchase orders and the disposing of several items from Emergency Management.
The commissioners approved the disposal of a 1995 Chevy Caprice, a couple of storage units or cabinets, two printers, a DVD set, computer parts and other miscellaneous equipment.
DeLozier asked staff to insure the items were actually of no value to insure the county could not retain any value from the items.
In other business, the board accepted reimbursements for Thacker and Helm’s districts, including funds from Oologah-Talala Emergency Medical Services and the Rogers County Assessor’s office.
The reimbursements come from fuel purchased at the county barns. The board also approved various utility permits and accepted participation in two area grants.
The board will meet today at 9 a.m. in a special meeting to discuss the annual county budget.
