Leak found in RWD3 waterline, Foyil cancels school

CLAREMORE —

Customers of Rural Water District 3 are without water and Foyil Public Schools classes were canceled after a leak was detected Thursday morning.

RWD3 District Manager Rick Stull said the leak was found in one of the main underground water lines. He said there is no water in the towers or storage tanks.

“We don’t even have water in our plant. I have all of my employees working to fix the leak, but it may not be until 6 p.m. before our customers have water.”

He said customers north of Highway 20 and east of Owasso to north and east of Foyil are impacted by the leak.

A backhoe has been called in and Okie One-Call System has been notified to ensure that no further damage is made to public services.

Stull said the leak seems to be from natural causes.

Local businesswoman Neoma Inman has offered to help those affected by the water outage by making up to five gallons of water available for free.

“If someone who lives in that (affected) water district brings in a container of up to five gallons, we’ll fill it up for them, free of charge,” said Inman, owner of Hydration Station in Claremore. “We would appreciate it if they could bring their water bill to confirm they live inside of Rural Water District 3, but we’ll help people who need water for as long as this situation continues.”

Inman said she’s glad to help those who need it.

“You can’t do anything without water,” she said. “You can’t brush your teeth, you can’t cook, you can’t bathe — I know what it’s like — it’s a bad situation, and we’d like to do what we can to help the people or RWD 3 while they’re without water.”

Inman said Hydration Station, located east of Warehouse Market at 418 W. 6th Street in Claremore, will be open from 3-6 p.m. Thursday to help Rural Water District 3 residents. She also encouraged persons with questions to call her at the store at (918) 283-9909.
