Emergency Ops Center relocating

CLAREMORE — Construction of the new Rogers County E911 Center and Courthouse has now been expanded to include the remodeling of the jail.

To meet the needs of the Rogers County Emergency Management, the Emergency Operations Center, EOC will be relocating to the old courtroom in the Rogers County Jail.
The facility will be modified to accommodate the EOC and renovations will be paid from the Rogers County Industrial Development Authority bond proceeds as an addendum to the courthouse project, according to BKL principal and architect Kim Reeves.
Rogers County Emergency Management Director Scotty Stokes has been involved in the process, according to Reeves. The Rogers County Commissioners recently approved a $24,000 amendment to the contract with BKL Inc., however the final cost of the project has not been determined.
“We are trying to spend as little money as possible,” Reeves said.
Once plans are finalized then bids will be posted, received and reviewed.
At that point the commissioners will be able to determine the cost involved with the project, according to B.J. Fay of Flintco.
The courthouse project has been running under budget will cost approximately $19 million to complete, according to Commissioner Kirt Thacker.
The renovations to the jail were not included in what voters approved when they overwhelming supported the renewal of a saless tax to fund construction of a new courthouse and E911 Center.
Additionally, the EOC was not included in the planning for the new courthouse, because it was to be added to the new E911 Center.
The EOC was recently removed from the E911 Center after limited funding restricted the size and structure of that building.
As a result the commissioners decided the jail would meet the tornado safety requirements needed for an EOC facility and provide a tactical training space for law enforcement.
The county is required to have an EOC, according to the Commissioner Dan DeLozier.
