Under Wire, Over Fire: Inola ranch hosts Dash

INOLA —

Thousands of runners from across Oklahoma and surrounding states headed to Inola Saturday to run in the “Warrior Dash” 5K run and obstacle course, hosted by Moore’s Flying M Ranch.
Participants of all ages ran, swam, climbed and leaped their way through  12 challenging obstacles spread out over more than three miles of extreme terrain.
“One thing I have learned as a first-time Warrior Dash volunteer is that there are some crazy characters who participate,” said EMT volunteer Bryan Doyle. “I saw a gentleman dressed in a white ninja costume, people dressed up like cavemen and one group dressed as members of the Justice League, which was pretty cool.”
Doyle said he wanted to get more involved in EMT volunteering and decided the “Warrior Dash” would be a “great” place to start.
“Fortunately there hasn’t been any serious injuries. If we get away with scratches and rolled ankles, we’re doing OK.”
Warrior Dash is held in all regions throughout the country as well as internationally in Austrailia.
The event is presented by Chicago-based Red Frog Events and benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Participants have raised millions of dollars for the hospital since the event began.
Finished runners were able to donate their used running shoes to USAgain, a recycling enterprise out of Chicago. Shoes are cleaned and given to people in need as USAgain travels to Warrior Dash races around the country.
After completing the “Battleground” obstacle course, participants were given a place to “hose off” before enjoying local music and flavors.
