Send a Kid to Camp brightens up lives of children

CLAREMORE —

(Editor’s Note: The names in this story have been changed to respect their privacy, but the story is real.)
Devin has been through a lot over the past year. His dad has suffered with various health problems for many months and recently had a defibrillator implanted.
Even though he’s only 11-years- old, Devin has shown his maturity and compassion being by his dad’s side every step of the way.
“(Devin) has been to every doctor’s appointment with his dad,” said his mother, Jeannie. “It’s been rough on everybody, but (Devin)’s taken it especially hard. He’s really close to his dad.”
Jeannie says returning to camp will be a welcome bright spot for Devin this summer.
“I’m so thankful for camp,” she said. “It’s been a rough year. This will be good for him, kind of give him a break.”
Share the Spirit Foundation’s “Send a Kid to Camp” program is raising $7,875 to send 45 Rogers County kids to the Heart O’Hills Salvation Army camp in Tahlequah June 17-22. Cost is $175 per camper.
