A Rogers County family was displaced following an overnight home fire off East 540 Road in the Verdigris area.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday, the homeowner smelled fire in the home and promptly evacuated his family from the residence, sccording to Verdigris Fire District Deputy Chief Tony Williams.
Verdigris firefighters arrived and remained on scene until about 3 a.m. to make sure the fire was out, Williams said.
“The fire appeared to have originated in the chimney and quickly spread into the attic which was heavily damaged due to the fire, as well as some general water damage (to the home) from fighting the fire,” Williams said. “Usually, a chimney fire is caused by a build-up of creosote, but the homeowner told us he’d recently had his chimney cleaned so the cause (of the fire) is still under investigation.”
None of the home’s residents were injured, Williams said.
Firemen from the Rolling Hills and Catoosa Fire Departments also responded.
