Toys for Tots kicks off campaign

CLAREMORE — The holidays are a a time for celebration, but many Rogers County and Claremore children are less fortunate. The joy of a gift can bring happiness into a difficult situation for these children.

Toys for Tots has worked with many local businesses, organizations and individuals to bring that joy back to the children of Mayes and Rogers counties. This year is no exception as the Toys for Tots campaign is now underway.

“Last year was very successful, with almost 10,500 toys given to more than 1,700 children from 750 families,” said Toys for Tots organizer Dale Marsh. “Our hope this year is what it is every year — to get toys to as many children as possible who might otherwise not have any for Christmas.”

Marsh, a retired Marine, has been working with the organization locally for many years, serving as organizer for several of those years.

“During the campaign, Toys for Tots boxes will be located in many store locations throughout Rogers and Mayes counties, including the Ne-Mar Center during the Claremore Christmas Parade.”  he said. “We ask people to bring any new, unused and unwrapped toy in the (Toys for Tots) boxes around town, to later be given to the parents of children, who show documentation proving they are receiving assistance of some kind — Medicaid card, Food Stamp (SNAP) Letter, SoonerCare card, WIC voucher, or letter for school reduced lunches. There is no pre-registration, but documentation of need will be necessary.”

Among the toy drop-off sites in Claremore are Atwoods, BancFirst, City of Claremore, the Claremore Chamber of Commerce, the Claremore Fire Department, Foutz Chiropractic, Grand Bank, IBC Bank, Kissee Ford, RCB Bank, Robson Performing Arts Center, and more.

Distribution of toys will be at the Claremore VFW post located at 1717 W. Dupont from 12 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 21, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 22. For more information about the program contact Dale Marsh at (539) 664-6426, by e-mail at T4TClaremore 2011@gmail.com or on the Internet at www.claremore.ok.toysfortots.org.
