Game Warden Brek Henry said that a baby alligator was spotted Friday morning in Dog Creek, near where it flows into Claremore Lake.
He said the two-foot long gator was swimming in the creek.
“I’m sure somebody just dumped it there,” Henry said. “There are all kinds of black market sales of reptiles. Somebody probably got it when it was just 10 inches long and it got too big for the aquarium, so they got rid of it.”
He said the that baby gator would be “nearly impossible” to catch in the creek, so they would more than likely just leave it.
“It’s too small to hurt anybody,” Henry said.
He said the Rogers County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Claremore had been notified.
