The Claremore Navy JROTC program is hosting a drawing for over $225 in local dining and items to raise money for Zebras United Against Cancer.
“Zebras United Against Cancer is an opportunity to declare victory over cancer with advocacy and fundraising efforts,” said Claremore Public Schools Communications Director Jamie Brace. “ZUAC was created by our students to help our zebra family as they are personally affected by the hardships of cancer. There is no overhead, no administration fees, no bureaucracy... 100 percent of all funds donated go to our students and staff.”
Students lead all the ZUAC fundraisers, including the Pink Out shirts, ZUAC Powder Puff game and fundraisers done by individual student organizations.
“Allowing students to engage in community service projects and activities helps them learn how to care for others,” Brace said. “The development of empathy is necessary for compassionate behavior. Both are necessary to be productive citizens. It is important to allow our students an opportunity to know what it is like to change the world...they are starting with changing the world they live in every day.”
Over the past four years, ZUAC has helped several CPS students and teachers battling cancer by contributing over $10,000 to their medical costs.
Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. The community is welcome to purchase tickets in the Claremore High School front office during regular school hours.
