It is with great regret that the Claremore Veterans’ Day Parade committee has had to cancel the 2020 Parade due to Covid-19. “We are going with extreme caution due to the fact that our parade features Veterans many of whom are in compromised health,” said committee chairman Wayne McCombs. “While some of the schools would still be available to participate, we felt that this year’s parade should be cancelled in order to keep everyone healthy.”
However, the annual Veterans’ luncheon is still on, scheduled to be held on Veterans’ Day November 11 at the American Legion starting at 1 p.m. Post Commander Joe Dorsey and Auxiliary President Ruth Thacker emphasized that they would be holding the luncheon as scheduled. All Veterans and their families are invited to attend.
The luncheon is a partnership with the American Legion, VFW and DAV and is held after the Veterans’ Day Parade every year. The final decision for this event was made by the American Legion due to it being their turn to host. All organizations are pitching in as usual.
The Veterans at the Claremore Veterans Center usually take part of both events, however due to their lockdown, cannot take part of either one. Because of this, Recreation Manager Monique DiLonardo is working on a drive-through parade on Friday, November 13. Details are still being worked out, but permits will not be necessary. Lineup for this parade will be held in the Blue Star Drive RSU parking lot (by the dorms). Anybody who would like to take part in this parade, which will go through the Veterans Center driveways, can give the coordinator a call at 918-829-9668 or drop an email to email@example.com.
