Long time Claremore resident Linda Lou Batty died in her home on April 9, 2020 at age 75. By profession, Linda was an educator, having taught English, Psychology and the Gifted and Talented program at Claremore High until her retirement in 2000. Linda’s greatest legacy is the group of young men and women who, even as they enter middle-age, identify as “Batty’s Kids”. As one wrote, “Ms. Batty taught generations of rowdy and diverse G/T kids like a maestro, drawing out the innate talents and intellect of each student to create cohorts of confident, critically-minded young adults”. After her retirement, she worked as a customer service trainer, ran her own college preparation business and volunteered at the Rogers County Courthouse and the Tulsa Cancer Center.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, W.J. and Alma Batty, and her life partner, Gary McKinney. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Hurley, her brother, Hank Batty, numerous extended family members, nieces, nephews and cousins and, perhaps most importantly, scores of “Batty’s Kids” worldwide.
