New legion post dedicated

Oklahoma American Legion Commander Ron Gott was in Claremore, Friday, March 13. His visit was to dedicate the newly formed Townsend-Doles Post 2020, initiate its members, and install the officers.

The Post is named in honor of two local young men, Jon Ross Townsend and John Glen Doles. Jon Ross was the son of Karen Nelson and the late Wayne Townsend. Immediately after graduating from Sequoyah High School in 2011, Jon joined the Army. September 2012, PFC Townsend made the ultimate sacrifice with his life in Afghanistan. John Glen was the son of Gene Doles and Sarah Appleman.

In 1999, John graduated from Claremore High School in May and joined the Army in December. September 2005, SSG Doles made the ultimate sacrifice with his life in Afghanistan.

Officers installed were Commander, Adjutant, Finance Officer, Service Officer, Chaplin, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Historian. Guests for the ceremonies include: Oklahoma Senior Vice Commander Ron Doane, Oklahoma East Commander Charles O’Leary, Oklahoma District B1 Danny Mooney, Oklahoma Auxiliary President Jody Chisolm, Sons of the American Legion National Vice Commander Chris Cook, Claremore DAV Commander Will Williams, Claremore Fire Department Chief Sean Douglas, and Claremore City Councilman Ken Hays, Post members family and guests, and Townsend and Doles family and friends.
