'A Universe of Stories'

The Summer Reading Program is going strong at the Will Rogers Library!

Over 600 kids and teens are already reading and winning prizes in 2019’s “A Universe of Stories” program. “The program runs through the end of July so there’s still plenty of time to sign up, attend the special programs and win prizes!” said Library Director Sherry Beach.

“Summer Reading is a great, flexible activity for children or teens over the Summer,” added Children’s Services Coordinator Tena Cassity. “It’s fun, learning focused and free! It’s also a really great option for families with busy schedules or summer vacation plans, as kids and teens read on their own time, and then bring their reading lists to the library for prizes.”

Kids ages 6-11 who are signed up for the Summer Reading Program are also invited to attend special event activities at the Library every Wednesday morning at 10:00 am throughout July. Please note that seating is limited for these programs, so early arrival is necessary to ensure attendance. Both adults and children are welcome, however priority seating will be given to children ages 6-11.

July’s Summer Reading Program events include:

• Wednesday, July 3 – Ventriloquist Gary Howell and his puppet pals will take you on their adventures!

• Wednesday, July 10 – Blast off to Destination Moon with Mad Science!

• Wednesday, July 17 – Explore a Universe of Magic with Magician Steve Crawford!

The Library offers plenty of summer fun for adults too! Over 400 new fiction and non-fiction print and e-book titles have been added to the collection for July, as well as a variety of new movies. In addition, over 200 new e-audio books and magazines have been added to the digital collections.

On vacation this summer? Check out from anywhere!

Summer is the perfect opportunity to check out the library's e-books and magazines, as they are easy to download to your tablet or smartphone while you're on the go, with no worries about overdue books and late fees if you're out of town or away for the summer.

"We see a real increase in the popularity of e-books during the summer months" said Beach. "The convenience of being able to download your favorite author or new release without ever venturing out into the heat, or knowing you can download from anywhere, even on vacation or by the pool, makes them a great choice this time of year".

Be sure to preview all the new release titles available each month by checking them online – you'll always find them displayed on the front page of the online library catalog at www.willrogerslibrary.org.

Whether you’re at home or going on vacation, venturing outdoors or staying in to beat the heat, treat yourself to the pleasure of a new book (print or e-book!) from the Library this July. There’s always something cool to check out!

Please Note: The Will Rogers Library will be closed Thursday, July 4th for Independence Day. The library will resume normal hours on Friday, July 5th .
