Claremore Senior Center, Mercy Chefs to provide fresh produce

Editor's Note: There has been a change of address for pickup.

The Claremore Senior Center has partnered with Mercy Chefs with the Farmers to Families to provide read-packaged boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables to the community.

"This is allowing the farmers to stay in business. The U. S. Department of Agriculture has purchased the surplus amount of food from our farmers. Making it possible to hand out to our community," the Senior Center said.

They said they will continue to provide this service every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Claremore Expo Center, 400 Veterans Parkway.

The food is available for anyone in need, proof of need is not required.

Tuesday’s boxes are single person boxes 5-6 pounds.

"We are happy to provide one for each person in your household," The senior center said.

Thursday’s boxes are family boxes 25-28 pounds. One per family.

However, Senior Center Director Stacey Dowden encouraged people to pick up boxes for their grandparents and neighbors as well to help ease the flow of traffic.

On Tuesday, May 26, the Senior Center handed out over 1,000 food boxes in the first 55 minutes of being open.
