BancFirst is a top performing bank in the country, according to Bank Director Magazine’s Bank Performance Scorecard. BancFirst made the Top 10 list at number 8 in the category of publically traded banks in the $5 billion to $50 billion range, up seven spots from the previous Scorecard ranking of 15th. BancFirst has been included on this prestigious list for 13 consecutive years. Additionally, BancFirst was in the Top 25 list, at number 18, when the 300 largest banks were ranked against each other as a single group, regardless of the size categories. No other Oklahoma banks were included on this list.
Bank Director annually ranks the top performing banks and thrifts in America, based on profitability, capital adequacy and asset quality metrics. Specifically, Bank Director uses five key metrics that measure performance across a spectrum of attributes that collectively define what it means to be a good bank. Return on average assets (ROAA) and return on average equity (ROAE) are used to measure profitability. The ratio of tangible common equity to total assets is used to measure capitalization, and the ratio of nonperforming assets to total loans and other real estate owned and the ratio of net charge offs to average loans are used to gauge the strength of a bank’s asset quality.
The Scorecard’s purpose is to identify banks that generate good profits without leveraging balance sheets or taking excessive lending risks. Sandler O’Neill + Partners in New York, using data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, calculated the Bank Performance Scorecard. The Scorecard rewards banks that are well balanced across the full spectrum of profitability, capitalization and asset quality.
