Claremore Electric receives Excellence in Reliability Award

Claremore Electric Department was one of two award recipients in Oklahoma for Excellence in Reliability.

Larry Hughes, Claremore Utility Director, said the recognition came from the American Public Power Association.

APPA tracks outages: what causes them and how quickly they're fixed.

"They gave this award to 143 communities throughout the United States, we're one of two in Oklahoma, us and Edmond," Hughes said, adding that recipients rank in the top quarter nationwide in terms of reliability.

"What the certificate of Excellence in Reliability is based on is outage time," he said. "Our average time is just over 35 minutes, the national average is an hour and a half. We perform at a very quick and timely manner."

Hughes was quick to praise his staff, saying it is their diligence and hard work that causes quick response times.

Claremore Mayor Bill Flanagan applauded the department's efforts.

"We continue to make investments in our electric department and that's showing that it's working. By making capital investments into our system we are making it more reliable, and it's paying off," he said.
