Swimmers at the ready—renovations at the Claremore Recreation Center Pool are nearly complete.
The Claremore Rec is back open to the public with sanitation and social guidelines in place, but at this time the pool is still closed.
Rec Center Director Mitch Louderback said the pool renovations are approximately 90 percent complete.
“Contractors came in and removed faulty tiles that we had. They are taking all the tile out of the pool and the sidewalls, they are still working on that,” Louderback said. “When they come back they will finish taking the tiles of the sidewall, power wash it, and then put new tile on.”
Work on the pool is currently paused as they have sent a specialist in to figure out why the tiles failed in the first place.
The recreation center is also renovating the public restrooms, with new lockers and benches. New countertops and faucets will be added in early June.
The hallway flooring throughout the building will also be renovated soon.
With the exception of Silver Sneakers, all of the recreation center’s aerobics classes are still meeting for exercises.
Childcare is also closed until after phase 3 of reopening.
For the parts of the facility that are currently open to the public, “we are trying to get everyone to stay at least 6 feet apart and disinfect equipment before and after they use it.”
The pool reopening will be contingent on both the completion of renovations and state guidance on when it will be safe to reopen public swimming facilities.
“We’re doing are best to make sure our customers who are coming in are practicing the best hygiene guidelines we can provide,” Louderback said.
