In addition to their daily duties, the staff at Northeast Technology Center's Pryor Campus are busily preparing for an open house event scheduled to take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28. The event is designed to give the community a better understanding of the many programs available at NTC, and allowing potential students the opportunity to explore the campus before enrollment begins.
“A picture is always more powerful than words, so we want our patrons to have the chance to see NTC for themselves,” said Pryor Campus Director Debby Peaster.
Peaster and her staff mailed postcards to several thousand local high school students inviting them to attend the event. NTC serves a wide audience, but for this event Peaster and her staff are specifically targeting high school students.
“Enrollment for the fall semester takes place in the spring, and the sooner students can submit their applications the better,” Peaster said. “It can be intimidating for teenagers to step outside the familiar environment of their high school, so our hope is that by visiting the campus and meeting NTC's instructors, the decision to enroll in our programs won't cause so much anxiety for teens and parents.”
Guests will be able to enjoy refreshments, tour the facilities, meet the instructors, enroll and apply for financial aid.
“Like most other things in life, attending NTC requires a little planning ahead,” said Peaster. “NTC staff members will be available throughout the open house event to answer questions about credits and schedules, as well as college planning since students can earn college credit for their NTC coursework.”
Parents are encouraged to attend with their high-schooler, and younger students and their families are also welcome to stop by the event.
“It's never too early to begin thinking about taking CareerTech classes,” said Peaster. “Maybe you have a teen who's interested in going on to college or starting a career, or maybe they don't have any idea what they want to do yet. Whatever the case may be, they will find something that interests them at NTC.”
