A Claremore couple was arrested on felony child neglect allegations after a five-month old infant tested positive for amphetamines.
Investigators with Claremore Police Department responded to a Tulsa hospital after receiving word that an infant tested positive for amphetamines. At the hospital they spoke with the infant’s parents, Jared and Kyley Spears.
“The Spears’ reported that they took [the infant] to see a doctor and to the emergency room for convulsions, erratic movements, and other symptoms consistent with exposure to stimulant drugs,” CPD records show.
Jared Spears reportedly told investigators that [the infant] “started jerking and twitching” before being taken to the hospital.
Investigators served a search warrant on Jared Spears’ home, where they reportedly found “loaded syringes and methamphetamine on the master bed where Jared Spears and the infant slept the night before going to the hospital.”
Investigators add, “There were dirty baby bottles lying on the bed surrounded by drugs, drug paraphernalia, sex toys and at least one uncapped loaded syringe. There were no caps on the baby bottles and some of the nipples were touching the heavily-stained bare mattress.”
In an interview with investigators Kyley Spears reportedly said she had seen used needles left in various places in the house and that “she knew Jared used drugs regularly in the home.” She was also quoted in saying “She knew the home was not a safe place for [the infant] but she allowed him to stay there because she did not want him to be without his dad.”
Bond is currently set at $50,213 for Jared Spears and $20,000 for Kyley Spears.
