Officers were given a refresher course in how to safely search an empty building during a continued training course Tuesday.
Claremore Police Department hosted an officer safety course taught by Tulsa Police Department’s Luke Sherman this week.
CPD Deputy Chief Steve Cox said this was phase two of a training started in late 2017.
“This was focusing on how officers safely search structures, but not in an active shooter situation,” he said. “When we arrive at a residence or business for a burglary, for example, we have to clear the structure in a manner that is both safe for the officers and the suspect.”
Cox said the department invited Rogers County Sheriff’s Office to join them in the training.
“On this type of call it is common to have deputies from RCSO wit us, and vice versa,” Cox said. “So it helps to have a shared training, with shared language and procedure so everyone knows that to expect.”
