Crime report shows arrests, trends in RoCo

For those who wonder about the criminal landscape of Rogers County, the numbers are in.

The Uniform Crime Reporting program, developed by law enforcement as a tool for operational and administrative purposes, recently released their 2018 report. This report includes "the most accurate and current crime data available for the state" and tracks trends in criminal activity.

In Rogers County

The report breaks down the number of drug and alcohol related arrests of juveniles and adults per county.

Of the county's drug-related arrests, 29 were juveniles and 323 were adults. Eleven juvenile arrests and 411 adult arrests were alcohol-related.

Further, the report breaks down domestic abuse arrest into multiple categories: Murder, sex crimes, assault, and assault and battery.

Locally, these numbers have held fairly steady since 2016: Murder- 2, sex crimes-36, assault-32, assault and battery-378.

The crime report provides an analysis, per agency, illustrating population, crime rate per 1,000 and reported numbers of specific crimes in 2018.

Rogers County Sheriff's Office:

Less data was provided for some of the county's smaller agencies but the report did include a crime rate per 1,000 for Chelsea Police Department, 33.46, and for Verdigris Police Department, 10.92.

In Oklahoma

The Uniform Crime Report provides a broad look at criminal activity and trends across the state, breaking down everything from hate crimes to number of officers employed and number of officers killed in the line of duty.

Law enforcement agencies reported that overall, violent crime increased 4.1% and non violent crime increased .5% in 2018.

"Reported rape has increased close to 10% in 2018, and for the last 10 years, rape has steadily increased 4- 15% every year except in 2011 with a slight decrease," according to the data. "The number of robberies (2,765) reported in 2018 dropped 7.2% compared to 2017 (2,978). Robbery consistently decreased 1-9% per year until 2016 when it increased 5.9%. Robbery has decreased 5-7% for the previous two years (2017-2018)."

The number of reported aggravated assaults have increased 6.1% in 2018.

"Law enforcement agencies reported 210 murders in 2018. Murders accounted for 1.1% of all violent crimes … Domestic murders (i.e., the murder of one family member by another) accounted for 21.4% of all murders, an 8.0% increase compared to 2017," according to the report. "Of the 45 domestic murders, 33.3% were intimate-partner murders (i.e., one spouse killing the other)."

Law enforcement agencies reported 26,630 burglaries and said that of the 2,506 offenders arrested for burglary 12.5% were under the age of 18. The estimated property value of stolen items was $65,587,989.
