Claremore Police Department Public Information Officer and Training Coordinator Brian Burnett shares what made him want to become a first responder.
1) What made you want to be a first responder?
As a child growing up, I spend a lot of time watching the Cops TV show. I was hooked from that point forward and knew I wanted to be a police officer.
2) What is your favorite aspect of the job?
My favorite aspect of the job is when people remember you for what you’ve done. I’ve had numerous experiences when someone comes up to me and asked If I remember them and then thank me for something I’ve done.
3) What is your most memorable moment on the job?
My most memorable moment on the job was when I helped a choking infant. I was parked near a neighborhood when I saw a mother running towards my police car with her choking baby. Together, we were able to clear the baby’s airway.
4) What is one thing you wish the public knew about your job?
One of the things I wish the public knew about the job was the amount of training that goes into being a Police Officer.
5) How have you seen your department impact the community?
One of my jobs at the Claremore Police department is conducting community talks. I’m currently going to local churches to give information about how to avoid phone scams. I believe getting this information has greatly impacted our community.
