Robert Casey

Claremore Fire Department Firefighter Robert Casey shares what made him want to become a first responder.

1) What made you want to be a first responder?

I was personal training at the time, took a CPR class and fell in love with it. Realizing I could save someone's life and make a difference. That was my calling. Firefighters are called to all kinds of calls.  It was the perfect fit for me.

2) What is your favorite aspect of the job?

Brotherhood. We spend 1/3 of our lives at the fire station. We become one big family. When we are called to an emergency no matter how bad it is, we know we have each others back.

3) What is your most memorable moment on the job?

The first day on the job. Realizing that I had made it. A lot of places were on a hiring freeze at the time.  I had been praying and working towards whatever I needed to do to get on.

4) What is one thing you wish the public knew about your job?

That we respond to more than just fires. We also respond to medical calls, vehicle, accidents, hazmat calls, rescues, odor investigations, power lines down, and many others.

5) How have you seen your department impact the community?

Fire prevention is one of the services we offer. Whether it's teaching kids fire safety at schools, or attending some public event, we want to be out in the community so we can spread fire awareness and prevention.
