A car caught fire Tuesday afternoon in front of Reasor’s in Claremore, sending smoke dozens of feet into the air and closing one lane of Will Rogers Boulevard.
The driver, who was uninjured, stopped at the traffic light in front of the store at 1000 W. Will Rogers Blvd. around 5:45 p.m. and noticed smoke. Within minutes, flames appeared from the driver’s side window.
The fire appeared to begin under the front hood, and firefighters quickly pried it open wide enough to soak it with a hose. It took nearly 10 minutes to pry the hood all the way open.
Firefighters were not sure what caused the fire.
Authorities temporarily closed one lane of Will Rogers Boulevard.
