A manhunt continues in Rogers County for a heavyset, bald man suspected of shooting a Verdigris area woman this afternoon around 1:20 p.m.

The attack happened at 7706 E. 540, just west off Highway 66 in Verdigris.

The victim, identified as Terry Jones, told officials a bald man wearing a red checkered shirt entered her home by prying open a window before unlocking the front door. She went to the back of the home to retrieve a gun and may have possibly fired one round, and missed, before the invader wrested the gun away and shot her.

The suspect left the resident in a brown Nissan pickup with a gray driver’s side door. The woman was able to call 911, but passed out during the call.

Officials believe there may have been a second person involved.

Any suspicious vehicles or leads can be forwarded to 341-3535.

Sheriff officials have called in the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist with fingerprinting and processing of evidence.

The Pafford Ambulance and Verdigris Volunteer Fire Department responded to the emergency call.

Undersheriff Barry Lamb said it is a “highly unusual” crime for the Verdigris area and also Rogers County.

The unidentified victim, said to be in her late 40s or early 50s was taken by air ambulance to a Tulsa hospital.
